Moving the entire National Physical Laboratory included dismantling their 1.2 meganewton Force Standard machine – which cost of over £2m to build, is over 12.6m high and weighs 166 tonnes. It is also very delicate and components had to be wrapped to avoid any contamination that would affect the calibration. We also transported a set of atomic clocks which require constant power, and an apple tree, grown from a graft of Issac Newton’s original tree which inspired the identification of the force of gravity.
